Inspire Me

by Cheri of From Out of the Cracks

“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.” Helen Keller

Where does that creativity come from? What was the inspiration, the spark? Do you go somewhere to get inspired?

Here is our featured HandmadeMN artist Theresa from Egret Effects where she creates whatever will keep her hands busy – beaded jewelry, dream catchers, knitted gifts, home décor, felted flower pins, and other good stuff. You can also check out Theresa on her Blog or Facebook fan page.

Theresa says, "When my niece was born six years ago, a family friend knitted the new baby a lovely pink blanket with hearts in the pattern. She sent it off to the baby and has only seen her a handful of times until our recent reunion. I think she can be proud to claim that no blankie has ever been loved so thoroughly. It has been reduced to a tangle of broken strings and knots. It’s more of a shredded ball than a blanket and it’s not pretty. My niece’s love has decimated that blanket, and I keep making things in the hopes that someday one of my creations will be literally loved to pieces, too.

Maybe it’s because I’m just at that age, but in the last couple of years there have been about 84 babies born to people I know. We’re talking a lot of gifts, cards, and parties. After using patterns to knit countless stuffed animals and other things for these babies, I’m now starting to make plushy toys of my own designs. Floppy-ear Ellie is a fun one that’s for sale and waiting to be loved!"
