Evacuated due to The Machine Gun Fire...

Have you ever been evacuated from your home?  Well, 7 months ago, my family {along with hundreds of other families} were...and we were completely unprepared!  COMPLETELY UNPREPARED!

When I saw this post at How Does She showing us how to make 72 hour kits for kids I had to share.  This is a great post on what to include in your children's 72 hour kits {especially the FUN section}...

Photo belongs to how does she?

Do your 72 hours kits look like this?  I bet not...

Well ~ mine do NOW...and I'll show & tell you why...

On September 20, 2010 The Machine Gun Fire caused a major evacuation in my neighborhood.  We were unable to go home for more than 24 hours.  This was one of the scariest events I've ever experienced...after looking at the following pictures, I'm sure you'll understand why...

This is what the neighborhoods looked like...EMPTY...except for the police cars driving through with their sirens blaring and their intercoms on telling everyone to GET OUT NOW!  We actually had military trucks driving up and down our streets...scared the poop out of my kidlets.

This is the last thing we saw as we were driving away.  My home is less than a mile from the bottom of that 'V'

Look how close that fire line is to the homes?
EEEK!

This photo was taken MILES away and look how big the flames look.  They were seriously HUGE!!!

Someone's home...one of three lost.

The moon looked like this to everyone in the Salt Lake valley...there was SO much smoke!

Seven months later and I still find ash hiding in nooks and crannies...

 I highly recommend getting your shiznit together and make yourself and your family some 72 hour backpacks...and, DON'T FORGET THE DOGS!

And just in case you are curious...this is what my mountain looked like once they finally got the fire out...{well, most of it}

I'd like to just point out that the Unified Fire Department did a fabulous job and was able to save hundreds and hundreds of homes....unfortunately three were lost...but in the grand scheme of things, it could have been a lot worse.

So...what ya waitin' on?  Get those 72 hour kits a rollin'
